Gary Paulsen: Personal Life
Gary Paulsen didn't always want to be an author. Actually, as a kid, he wasn't very smart. He ran away from home to join a circus at a young age. As he traveled around, he learned that he loved to write. He wanted to write books for kids, though. Once his books were published, he almost instantly became well known. Many famous books like Hatchet and The Quilt, were written by him.
Hunting
Gary paulsen spent alot of his life in the wilderness. Mostly, because he hunted for his food. As a young kid, he was given his first bow. He wasn't very good at first but eventually, he became more accurate. Strangeley, he preferred a bow over a gun. He says it is because the bullet ruins the meat. He also says it is because the shot is very loud, and scares all the animals away. Many of his hunting experiences were used in the book Hatchet.
